Genetics 101
When 23andMe first launched their company, Fluent Studios stepped in to animate a series of videos for the emerging leader in biotechnology and genomics. We teamed up with illustrator/producer Ariana Killoran to create four lighthearted videos teaching the basics of genetic science. The series is featured on Khan Academy, received a medal from the Genetic Alliance, and is still used in thousands of classrooms across the country.

Science is fascinating, complicated, and important to share—which is why 23andMe asked Fluent Studios to create these engaging, humorous videos. Animation is one of the most effective tools for educating people about complex topics. We were able to create visual models of things we normally can't see, like DNA, and simplify a highly complex scientific process in a way that anyone can understand.
When paired with cartoon-like characters, an informative voiceover, and a bit of fun, these videos still withstand the test of time and teach us what we need to know about genetics. That’s why the series landed in Khan Academy, one of the most widely used educational platforms.
After the success of this project, 23andMe hired us to animate a five-part series on Human Prehistory, which also appears on Khan Academy. Whether it’s learning about how many chromosomes bananas have, or explaining the origin of homo sapiens—we’re always here to collaborate and grow with our clients.
