UC Berkeley and The Greater Good Science Center

UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) commissioned us to create a series of 10 videos to help parents raise caring and courageous kids. The videos highlight research-based insights to encourage kids to make compassionate choices that serve the greater good. Fluent Studios worked closely with GGSC to deliver stories that emphasize diversity and make scientific research more accessible.

When the Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) came to us, we felt confident we could work together to create videos that brought their research to life.

Our approach is always collaborative. The GGSC gave us their science-based research on parenting—specifically the nine most important attributes in raising children—and we developed those into a series of individually crafted videos. Our team came up with the thematic storylines and wrote each script, paying careful attention to factual accuracy and constantly checking in with the GGSC to ensure we met their goals.

Each video has a unique look and feel. We worked with different illustrators from around the world, and employed various animation styles to create distinctive designs developed to fit the content. None of the videos look exactly the same, and that’s because we know families don’t look exactly the same, either.

To add a unifying thread to the project, we brought in locally-loved Public Radio host Rachael Myrow to narrate the entire series.

With original ideas and a great deal of teamwork, we released a video every two weeks that was colorful, informative, and full of compassion. Just like the Greater Good Science Center’s mission. Each one brought us two minutes closer to raising a generation of kids that believe in themselves and those around them.
